Join us for an extraordinary Sunday afternoon of free music in an intimate, reimagined canalside venue.
ABOUT THE EVENT
We’re honoured to welcome members of The Blue Planet Orchestra, some of London’s most exceptional and adaptable musicians, performing completely free in this special setting. Renowned for their ability to navigate everything from intricate contemporary scores to improvisation inspired by global musical traditions, these artists bring a rare energy and sensitivity best experienced up close.
Our reimagined canalside snug becomes a warm, plant-filled stage space where you can sit just a few feet from world-class performers and savour every detail of the music.
This session is led by Williams Cumberbache, a Venezuelan percussionist and composer central to the British Latin music scene. Best known as the bandleader of Tumbaito, Williams has collaborated with Björk and Goldie and contributed to the West London Broken Beat movement. His music fuses Afro-Latin traditions with funk, salsa and Detroit house, bringing a vibrant rhythmic pulse to every project he leads.
Enjoy brunch options until 3pm, followed by our festive sharing menu, with mulled wine to keep things cosy. Plus, the first 10 arrivals from midday will receive a FREE Square Mile coffee when you quote “Canalside Coffee” at the bar.
Come for the music, stay for the atmosphere, and be part of something generous, joyful, and uniquely Hackney Wick!
Line-up:
We welcome some of London’s most versatile musicians with The Blue Planet Orchestra, led by bandleader, composer, and pianist Roland Perrin, whose globally influenced jazz compositions fuse African, Latin, Brazilian, and contemporary traditions with bold re-imaginings of classic works.
Joining Roland are saxophonist Jeremy Shoham, known for his acclaimed UK jazz projects; trombonist Paul Taylor, a prolific composer and performer whose credits range from Loose Tubes to the Mingus Big Band; multi-instrumentalist John O’Neil, a versatile jazz and bossa nova specialist with an extensive composing and arranging portfolio; percussionist and bassist Emmanuel Oladokun, whose grounding in soul, funk, afrobeat, and jazz reflects his early mentorship under Perrin; and drummer Levi Kwapong, celebrated for his expressive groove, versatility, and dynamic presence across jazz, funk, and contemporary music.
This event is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the UK Government’s Creative Industries sector vision. £5 million has been invested to support Grassroots Music.
