This July sees the launch of a brand-new event series from moss.fm in collaboration with Grow, Hackney. moss.fm is a non-profit promoter championing independent sounds and accessible spaces.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS AND DJS
Each night will be recorded live and released shortly after, these are events that are made to be repeated.
Kicking off the series is an intimate night curated and headlined by award-winning film composer, multi-instrumentalist, and performing artist Mara Simpson, celebrating the release of her new album Living Matter. Expect an evening of genre-blending sounds, thoughtful curation, and a dynamic atmosphere.
Mara Simpson creates vast textural soundscapes using digital and organic instrumentation symbiotically to create journeying ambient compositions. Mara uses her skills as an award winning multi-faceted composer to bring rich contrast to her work, seamlessly blending modular synthesisers and acoustic instruments whilst intertwining with flavours of tape delays, breathy vocals and her own field recordings to create the original sound of Mara Simpson.
Her latest album, Living Matter, explores folk-inspired compositions rooted in natural imagery, think layers of oak and turf, interlaced within the circuitry of arpeggiators. She brings her new release to Grow Hackney for what is certain to be a dynamic live show. Mara has gained notoriety across BBC Radio 6 Music as well as her numerous genre-defying musical works for TV series.
Joining Mara is…
Sm^sher, the moniker of artist and producer Imogen Mason. sm^sher's sonic world is impulsive, visceral and tapestried; weaving meditations on memory, grief, addiction, introversion and hope around industrial soundscape, fractured beats, drone-backed folk song and collage.
Louis Giannamore - by day, he is a session drummer, by night, an electronic and ambient composer and artist, creates grandiose and cinematic sound scapes using analog synths and field recordings. His sound design replicates that of an electric guitar or spaceship rather than synthesiser, with intention to create an auditory world that feels powerful and brooding.

DEEPDIG: BRIAN NOT BRIAN + FREDERIKA // DISCO // GLOBAL GROOVES // BOOGIE // JAZZ-FUNK
Dig deep. Go wide. Let loose. This one’s for the heads, the dancers and the curious souls who want something more from a night out.
ABOUT THE EVENT
For this edition of DeepDig, we’re welcoming two selectors who live and breathe the craft – artists who know how to build a journey and aren’t afraid to take unexpected turns.
Frederika sets the tone as the sun dips over the canal, warming up our terrace with one of her richly textured, genre-fluid selections. A Lost Village resident and regular at brilliant corners, her sets blur the lines between new age, jazz, psychedelic oddities, percussive grooves and leftfield electronics. Expect a hypnotic build-up from a DJ who connects the dots in all the right ways.
Then we move inside, where Brian Not Brian takes full control of the warehouse until 2am. Known for his fearless, genre-defying approach and deep musical knowledge, Brian’s a long-standing figure in London’s underground – from co-running the Going Good label to playing at festivals across the globe including Dekmantel and Kala. His extended sets are masterclasses in deep cuts and unexpected turns, spanning decades and continents.
As always with DeepDig, this is about freedom behind the decks. No time limits, no rules – just deep musical explorations from selectors we trust. Come early, stay late – and let the music take you somewhere else.

NOT THE USUAL JAM SESSION // OPEN JAM // FREE
A unique musical experience that breaks the mould. David (The Orbalist, Hackney Rhythm) hosts a jam that is accessible for everyone—no more pay-to-play, no more rehearsed sets. A space where synths, sequencers, MPCs, and E-drums harmonise with guitars, basses, keys, and acoustic drums.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
When Alessandro Corda and David met at the jam, they immediately realised they shared the same passion for music and had similar values. Alex, a versatile musician, DJ, and producer, and a regular at London’s jams and host of a couple, offered to work closely with David. Not only did he manage the stage, but he also contributed behind the scenes, taking the jam to the next level.
Join us on the first Sunday of each month. Admission is free and safe and welcoming to the newcomer or seasoned performer. Whether you’re a keyboard virtuoso, a beatmaker, or a storyteller with a voice, this jam is for you. Bring your passion and your open mind. Let’s create music that transcends the ordinary and be part of the Not The Usual Jam and Grow musical community.
Our stage has hosted the tentative strumming of novice guitarists, the mesmerising loops of experienced producers, and the raw vocals of singers discovering their voices. From Charlie Stacey to Qoha or George The Poet, our stage has welcomed talented artists from various disciplines, including regulars: Alex Mike The Mic, Freddie Mpanga, Nico (MoorMoor), Conor Larkin, Matt Duduryn, Tom Caton, Richard Castle, Simon (Koyoka), and many others who come together to share their music experience, celebrate their progress, enhance growth, and enjoy each other - keeping eclecticism our flagship. The NTUJ session is a sandbox for sonic exploration, where David conducts, orchestrates, and brings people together. Here, musical boundaries dissolve, genres intertwine, and magic is born. Bring your instruments, synths, drum machines, unconventional gear, and curiosity.
If you’d like to take part show up with your instrument, any questions that you may have, please send them to infohackneyrhythm@gmail.com

EQUAL PARTS: B.LOVE // MAYBE LAURA // HOUSE // ELECTRO // DISCO // TECHNO
Equal Parts returns to Grow this summer with a double serving of underground magic courtesy of B.Love and Maybe Laura.
ABOUT THE DJS
B.Love is known for his signature groove-driven productions that blend deep, off-kilter house with wiggly, fidgety electro. With his upward trajectory in the UK underground reflecting a commitment to this distinctive sound, the London-born artist has delivered two notable releases in 2025 already, appearing on Ralph Lawson's 20/20 Vision with 'Rhythm Freq', and ‘Music Dance Experience’, the first release on his own eponymous label, B.Love. In 2021, B.Love launched Bizarre Trax with collaborator Felon5, a label known for dropping ‘serious house firepower’ (RA). Dropping regular DJ sets at revered summer festivals Gottwood and Junction 2, we can’t wait for B.Love to take the reins for his Grow debut this August with an extended three hour set.
Supporting B.Love on the night is Maybe Laura, a selector that cut her teeth in London's best-loved pub, The Lion and Lamb. Known for her eclectic and expansive sets that encompass house, techno, disco, and wave, Maybe Laura has already cemented herself as a regular at Europe's premier festivals Houghton, Dimensions, and Field Maneuvers, and has recently appeared on The Lot Radio, NY. Maybe Laura takes charge of the 10pm to midnight slot.
On warm-up duty, Equal Parts stalwart and long-time resident fairground brings his unique downtempo, house-infused sound to the Grow terrace. After a memorable Equal Parts outing on the Grow terrace last summer together, fairground is joined once more by DJ and party starter arnie for a three-hour vinyl-only back-to-back that promises dance-ready sounds from across the house music spectrum. Hailing from the North East of England, arnie is a resident of DBT.UK, a crew that have been making serious waves throwing underground parties in Scotland and beyond since 2019. With a record bag spanning everything from deep house to disco, arnie has graced the decks at Gottwood festival and warmed up for Gene on Earth and Olga Karol among others. It is a pleasure to welcome this understated maestro back to Equal Parts.
First record 7 pm, last record 3 am.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Conceived in a warehouse just a stone’s throw from Main Yard, Equal Parts have been throwing parties exclusively at Grow four times a year without fail since 2018. Forged in the twilight of Hackney Wick’s warehouse heyday, Equal Parts set out with the humble intention of curating friendly, dance-focused parties that guarantee maximum aural and kinetic pleasure at Hackney Wick’s best-loved DIY venue. Staying true to these roots, seven years on, Equal Parts is now a bona fide Friday-night Grow stalwart, with their resident DJs lining up at recent parties alongside a roster of heavy weight and rising talent, from Wes Baggaley to Tia Cousins and John Gómez. For 2025, Equal Parts ensure top-tier selectors grace Hackney Wick’s best-loved dancefloor yet again, with two road-block dates lined up for Solero season book-ended by two resident-only parties including a Halloween spectacular in October. Expect boat party energy into the early hours with sounds spanning House, Disco, Techno, and everything in-between.

DEEPDIG: MR BONGO // BRAZILIAN // GLOBAL GROOVES // DISCO // AFRO // PSYCHEDELIC
We’re honoured to welcome the legendary Mr Bongo DJs to Grow for a very special 4-hour extended DeepDig set. This one’s been a long time coming — we’ve been wanting to invite them for years.
ABOUT THE EVENT
We’re honoured to welcome the legendary Mr Bongo DJs to Grow for a very special 4-hour extended DeepDig set. This one’s been a long time coming — we’ve been wanting to invite them for years. True tastemakers and world-class diggers, they’ve shaped the global music scene with their deep knowledge and impeccable selections.
Their journey began over 35 years ago, digging in Venezuela and stuffing suitcases with rare Latin records to bring back to Europe. Since then, they’ve tracked down forgotten gems in dusty basements, warehouses and street markets across South America, Africa, Asia, and beyond.
Launching as a Soho record shop in 1989, Mr Bongo was the UK’s first to stock independent US hip-hop on vinyl. Since then, they’ve become a vital force in surfacing classic and contemporary sounds from Brazil, Latin America, Africa, and the global underground — both as DJs and via their Brighton-based label.
With artists like Arthur Verocai, BADBADNOTGOOD, Rubel, Cymande, and Marcos Valle on the roster, the Mr Bongo label is trusted by heads around the world. Their DJ sets are soulful, high-energy, and full of surprises — spanning rare Brazilian grooves, deep disco cuts, modern soul, gospel, house and beyond.
Having played festivals and venues from Glastonbury to Mareh in Brazil, this is a rare chance to experience the full spectrum of the Mr Bongo sound in an intimate space. A real treat for DeepDig — and not one to miss.

Music has always been in Jerry Frempong’s DNA, influenced by his late Father who led the way in pioneering the Ghanaian ‘Hi Life’ sound he was exposed to a musical staple that consisted of a fusion of organic and electronic African beats, bass and rhythms. As a lover of vinyl, he’s spent many a time carefully selecting his tunes and to date, he’s had the opportunity to grace the wheels of steel at clubs such as Ministry of Sound, Sankeys, Plan B, Sosho, Mint Club, Kensington Roof Gardens, Paramount Club, The Whitehouse, Cafe de Paris, and many other venues across the UK and Ibiza. Recognised by many as an all round musical selector and vibe creator, he’s warmed the decks for the likes of Danny Rampling, Nicky Holloway, Joey Negro, Norman Jay, Robert Owens, Luke Solomon and many more. Expect to get hot, as in the words of Jerry Frempong… “If you don’t sweat, it aint a set”

As an avid collector and club-going archetypal 'Soul Boy', he's been a DJ and selector since the early 80s with a taste that spans all aspects of Jazz, Funk and Soul from the early 60's to the present day.
His monthly show for Totally Wired Radio features a vast array of artists, including Horace Silver, Donald Byrd, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Mayfield, Aretha Franklin and many more.
Mucho Soul began life back in 2001 as a monthly club night in Soho. ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Suave Y Salvaje is amongst the first Latin-Punk events in London. Expect to be taken into a dancing journey through tropical landscapes inhabited by an uncompromising punk attitude. From the Caribbean coasts of Colombia to the streets of London.
London-based Akolá Tambó bring the ancestral rhythms of bullerengue, a drum-fueled Afro-Colombian music and dance tradition rooted in community and celebration. Their trance-inducing performances inspire joy and connection, inviting audiences to rediscover their roots through the heartbeat of the drum. The name Akolá Tambó—meaning “remember the drum”—reflects their mission to honour tradition and the transformative power of rhythm.
Chico Majara mix the tropical feel of Latin music with the intensity of punk and land on their feet with feline grace. An act that sets the dance floor on fire with an energy that is elegant and raw, swagger and dagger. Two percussionists lay out irresistible grooves reminiscent of early Latin Boogaloo and Salsa. The rhythm section sways sensually. Proto-punk guitars and an unpredictable performance bring an exhilarating sense of danger. Chico Majara’s live show is a feel-good, sassy and cathartic experience.
During the event Akolá Tambó and Chico Majara will join forces for a unique number where the traditions of Caribbean Colombia and the savage sounds of punk come together. Be witness to this special moment and join the sweet madness.
DJ Paskal (Rough&Tough) will be spinning an original all-vinyl selection curated for the occasion. Specialising in Caribbean and Latin music Paskal has been promoting two successful tropical nights in London, Cool Breeze and Chicha Por Favor. For Suave y Salvaje he will be bringing some gritty garage sounds and blending them with some of the best of cumbia, salsa and boogaloo.

LOVE IS EVERYWHERE #6 // TINA EDWARDS // HANDSON FAMILY // JAZZ DANCE FLOOR // HOUSE // LATIN // BRAZILIAN // BROKEN BEAT & MORE
The sixth edition of Tina Edwards’ jazz dancefloor party lands canal side at GROW Hackney on Saturday 17th May. Paying homage to classic jazz dance floor culture but with a modern twist.
ABOUT THE DJS
Joining us are purveyors of excellent taste and spotlighters of impeccable black music; the Handson Family. Come early for a FREE UK Jazz dance lesson from one of the world’s best, Masumi Endo, 7-8PM, catering to absolute beginners or dancers who want to brush up on their foundational techniques. Fancy footwork or simple two-step; the floor is yours.
DJs, selectors and increasingly tastemakers, Handson Family are somewhat of an enigma when it comes to describing exactly what they do. Fiercely proud of their irrespective South London heritages, married couple Chris and Cyndi have always leaned into uplifting and representing their community with an unwavering commitment to platform Black British music and club culture with an inclusive yet serious approach. Over the course of their career, the pair are fondly known for creating much needed third space music events in less conventional places with a DIY ‘Handson’ approach. Over the 20 years plus that they have worked together, their passion for genuine collaboration has seen them work with an array of notable musicians, DJs and events. Their own DJ sets are not to be underestimated. Their ability to weave genre-spanning narratives does not erode away from the often uplifting dancefloor energy they are able to produce, all whilst keeping their musical hearts and roots firmly deferential to the culture that raised them.
Tina Edwards is a DJ at the forefront of the UK Jazz explosion. In the wake of live acts breaking through onto major stages, it’s time for Jazz to dominate on the dancefloor. Having been a vocal pioneer of the UK scene for a decade—and DJing for the past 5—Tina proves that jazz and club culture are perfect partners.
WIth contagious energy and deep music knowledge—from West African groove and latin-house to 00’s Italo Jazz—Tina’s sets are never predictable. She performs across the UK and has played in Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Chicago and LA, all as an independent artist. She’s shared line-ups with Gilles Peterson, Colleen Murphy, Coco Maria, Scarlett O Malley, Delfonic, Rebecca Vasmant, Poly-Ritmo and more. Her party, Love is Everywhere, puts jazz dance floor at the forefront—along with Latin, Brazilian and house—and pays homage to the likes of Dingwalls and Shiftless Shuffle.
Tina hosts multi-genre new music show Next Big Thing on British Airways as well as her self-titled monthly residency on Soho Radio—not to mention the occasional Bandcamp Weekly. As one of Worldwide FM’s longest serving residents, Tina launched the popular breakfast show WW Daily, and hosted extra shows: EZH and Universal Sanctuary. In 2022 she presented the TV documentary JAZZ UK :Spitting Fire which aired on BBC One and BBC Four - testament to the fact that Tina is a trusted broadcaster and tastemaker. As a curator, she heads up Queer Jazz, promoting LGBTQIA+ talent in the jazz community, and re:sonate, programming far-reaching line-ups with fellow tastemaker, Tim Garcia.

QUESTNIGHTS #1 // SUBQUEST // MAXWELL OWIN // ANJA NGOZI // CHIMINYO (DJ SET) // VIVA CEE
To mark the release of their debut EP Insert Coin, Subquest introduce Questnights, a new club night rooted in forward-thinking sounds and deep musical exploration.
ABOUT THE DJS
This first edition brings together a carefully selected line-up of artists working at the intersection of electronic music, improvisation and bass culture. At the centre is Subquest, the collaborative project of drummer and producer Chiminyo and engineer-composer Viva Cee. Their sound draws from broken beat, UK bass and leftfield electronics, merging rhythmic intensity with detailed, high-fidelity production. With shared backgrounds in jazz, soul and club music, their work balances technical depth with real dancefloor energy – music that is as playful as it is precise.
Joining them is Maxwell Owin, a long-standing figure in London’s underground music scene. Known for his collaborations with Ezra Collective, Joe Armon-Jones and MC Pinty, he brings a distinctive sound shaped by deep grooves, analogue textures and a broad range of influences.
Also on the line-up is producer, DJ and artist Anja Ngozi, whose sets move intuitively across genre and tempo. Her work has featured in projects for the Tate Modern, the V&A and ICA, and her musical output blurs ambient, experimental club music and global sounds with a free-spirited touch.
The night also features solo sets from Chiminyo and Viva Cee, each bringing their own perspective to the decks. Expect a wide-ranging evening of sound, from UK bass and broken beat to textural electronics and percussive futurism, all grounded in deep musical connection and a shared sense of play.

There is almost certainly no other musician on the London music scene (as lively, diverse, and open to new ideas as it is) who has found such instinctively musical ways to combine jazz and electronic dance music.
