Leeds-based future jazz/electronica musician Greg Surmacz presents an exclusive performance of his full live band, with support from Wonky Logic.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Greg Surmacz is a musician and producer, creating work influenced by jazz, footwork, hip-hop, and the spectrum of UK electronic music. Exciting and unpredictable, it blends the sonic textures and bass weight of electronic music with the warmth and feel that only live musicians can provide, all held together by Greg's distinctive woodwind arrangements. This exclusive show celebrates the launch of his new release, 'Voices Through The Wall' on XVI Records. Check out the first single, 'Instruction Manual Raps (feat. Open Mike Eagle)’, available now on streaming.
His music has been supported by the likes of Jamie Cullum (Radio 2), Gilles Peterson (6 Music), Tom Ravenscroft (6 Music), Worldwide FM, Rinse FM, NTS and more. Fresh off the back of their first headline tour, this full live band features some of the best musicians in the UK, with players performing with the likes of Cinematic Orchestra, Nightmares On Wax, Matthew Halsall and plenty more.
Greg’s band pulls in a tight circle of players from across London’s jazz and underground scenes. Sam Vicary, Jamie Stockbridge, Tom Sharp, Rosie Turton and Finn Booth, all come with their own deep histories, playing in and around projects linked to Nubya Garcia, Kokoroko, Ezra Collective, Steam Down and Neue Grafik. It’s that crossover space where jazz meets broken beat, soul and electronics.
Support comes from the Leeds-born, South London-based producer Wonky Logic. A mainstay on the London jazz scene, you'll have seen him performing with the likes of Steam Down, Chiminyo, Nala Sinephro, Shabaka Hutchings and many more. His colourful beats are packed with off-kilter grooves, buzzy synths and jazzy harmony.
