Events, Open Studios and After Party - Grow is part of Open House Festival 2023!

GROW: EVENTS, OPEN STUDIOS & AFTER PARTY

Join us for Open House Festival 2023 and help celebrate London’s housing, architecture and neighbourhoods. Each year, we join the festival to explore Grow’s history, heritage and contemporary context and this year, we’ll be marking our inclusion at events on Thurs 7, Friday 8 and hosting an Open Studios and afterparty on Saturday 9 September.

THURSDAY 7 SEPTEMBER - LIVE JAZZ W/ ARTIST GINA SOUTHGATE OPENING SHOW

Join us for the launch of artist Gina Southgate’s show on Grow’s mezz gallery. This event is combined with Grow’s weekly jazz jam. The opening of the show is 5-7pm where you can view the work and meet the artist and from 7.30pm enjoy jazz from some of London’s most upcoming musicians.

FRIDAY 8 SEPTEMBER - WAH WAH LIVE W/ YOUTHSAYERS, DOM SERVINI & EVES DROP COLLECTIVE

Well respected, soulful independent record label Wah Wah 45s begin a new residency at Grow showcasing live acts and DJs from inside and outside of the imprint with their trademark uplifting, family feel.

Kicking things off on Friday 8 September are musicians from the Youthsayers project, an initiative set up by Wah Wah’s very own Soothsayers a decade ago to give South London youth the opportunity to learn an instrument and play together in a band. The result is an ever evolving ensemble who take on material from the likes of Fela Kuti, Theon Cross and of course their Soothsayers mentors themselves.

About Grow Studios

Did you know Grow Studios was founded in 2007 by two locals living and working in Hackney Wick?  The studios were repurposed from two empty warehouses - one was a commercial printers; the other a sausage factory backing onto the Lea Navigation canal.  The studios were borne out of a DIY self-organising ethos to create useful and sustainable spaces for its tenants. GROW is a unit of these studios and a space to bring grassroots music, art and people together, operated as an experiment in ethical and sustainable business.
